Had Enough?
Thomas Jefferson in his first Inaugural Address, called for "a wise and frugal government", one that "shall restrain men from injuring one another, which shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits." In Jefferson's time regulate did not mean rules and regulations but the freedom to live your life as you choose. Those words ring hollow with today's politicians.
Politicians have become too eager to pass new laws and programs to solve problems. Laws and programs frequently have numerous unintended consequences. These unintended consequences then create more problems that politicians mistakenly attempt to correct by passing more laws. Now our system of government has grown from the "wise and frugal government" to a bloated monster that has to constantly increase taxes to pay for its endless meddling.
I believe that the only powers the federal government has are the powers given to it by the U.S. constitution. I will not go to Washington with a pencil; I will go with an eraser.
